Teaching competencies are essential in ensuring effective classroom instruction; however, teachers continue to face various challenges that may affect their performance and professional growth. This study investigated the teaching competencies and challenges encountered by Grade 2 and Grade 3 teachers in the public elementary schools of Aguinaldo, Ifugao, during the School Year 2025–2026. A descriptive-correlational research design was employed, involving all Grade 2 and Grade 3 teachers selected through total enumeration sampling. Data were gathered using a researcher-made questionnaire and analyzed using frequency, percentage, weighted mean, and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient (r). Findings revealed that the respondents were generally experienced and professionally stable teachers who actively participated in professional development activities. The teachers demonstrated high to very high levels of competence in pedagogy, instructional strategies, classroom management, and assessment practices. Despite their strong competencies, they encountered moderate challenges related to diverse learner abilities, limited instructional resources, workload demands, and parental support. Furthermore, a very strong and significant relationship was found between teaching competencies and the challenges encountered, indicating that teachers continuously develop and strengthen their competencies in response to classroom demands. The study concludes that while challenges remain prevalent in the teaching profession, Grade 2 and Grade 3 teachers possess the necessary competencies to effectively address these concerns. The findings highlight the importance of sustained professional development, adequate instructional support, and collaborative school interventions to further enhance teacher effectiveness and improve educational outcomes.
